Thoinot Jeanne-Clémentine (1876-1949)
Jeanne-Clémentine Thoinot is a French painter who traveled a lot, among others in Indonesia, in Madagascar, in the French Antilles or in Africa.
In France she mainly painted Paris and Brittany.
L'archipel de Bréhat est constitué de l'île principale et de 86 neighboring islets and reefs. the 13 July 1907, Bréhat was the first listed natural site in France !
Long 3,5 kilometers and wide 1,5 kilometer, l'île est accessible en bateau et se visite à pied ou à vélo. En arrivant sur l'île via le débarcadère, borrow trails off the main streets which connect the port to the Peacock lighthouse. You will discover a multitude of coves, beaches and shelters for lost sailors.
L'île aux fleurs
Toute l'année, l'archipel profite de l'influence du Gulf Stream which ensures a particularly mild microclimate in winter. De nombreuses variétés de fleurs colorent l'île : des plantes exotiques comme l'agave ou l'echium ; des fleurs comme l'hortensia, the mimosa, mulberry, l'eucalyptus, l'aloès ou le camélia…
But the flower that most symbolizes Bréhat is l'agapanthe qui fleurit d'avril à septembre et égaie les chemins de sa douce teinte de bleu-mauve.
L'île des corsaires et des pêcheurs américains
Walking through Bréhat, vous découvrirez un patrimoine varié et riche qui constitue l'empreinte d'une histoire maritime mais également militaire qui marqua l'île. Indeed, it provides the crown of France with many corsairs qui firent régner la terreur dans l'Atlantique. On earth, there are monuments such as the Pont ar Prad édifié par Vauban pour rattacher les deux îles formant Bréhat et une citadelle qui accueille aujourd'hui les Bréhat Glassworks.
Like many Costa Rican ports, le port de la Corderie était le point de départ d'une flottille de Newfoundland bound for the seas of Newfoundland to fish for cod and whales. La Bonaventure fut the first known ship in Europe to come back from Newfoundland with holds full of cod in 1508, that is 16 ans après "la découverte" des Amériques par Christophe Colomb.
