Louis Rollet (Paris 1895- Saché 1988)

He is a French painter from the school of traveling painters from the beginning of the 20th century..

He made many trips to Asia and "Overseas" testifying in his many paintings on isorel of popular subjects, set in majestic landscapes. Its thick textures and its lifted touch immerses us in the materiality of these timeless moments of life..

He first exhibited in France at the Salon des Indépendants, at the Salon of the Society of French Artists, as well as at the Galerie George Petit.

Student of Fouqueray, he is the winner of the Prix de Madagascar in 1929. He will be a professor at the School of Fine Arts in Tananarive, created by Louis Dumoulin at the beginning of the century, and will strongly influence the Malagasy painters he will train.

His palette is then rich in original colors, perfectly reflecting the characteristic atmosphere of the markets and landscapes of the island..

He illustrates Maurice Allain's book, “Our beautiful overseas France”. From 1921 he exhibited at the Salons of French artists, and at the Salons des Independants from 1926. He received a silver medal in 1929 and 1937 at the International Exhibition. In 1930, he won the Indochina Prize.
He exhibits in 1931 at the Colonial Exhibition in Paris, in 1934 to that of Naples, in 1935 at the Universal Exhibition in Brussels.

Receives the distinction of Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1938.

He became director of the School of Cambodian Fine Arts in Phnom Pen and remained in Cambodia until 1945.
