Damag Gaston (1964) – Not masculine
Lives and works in Ile Saint Denis
He is a Filipino artist living in Paris whose roots in the Cordillera region of the Philippines influence his artistic practice..
This heritage is amalgamated with his own training in ethnology and anthropology, and an academic training at the Beaux-Arts in Paris.
It uses contemporary and industrial materials such as steel, glass, wool and oil paints that he mixes with the bululs (wood carving of Ifugao rice deities) to formulate critiques of identity, geopolitics, colonization, perception and modernity. .
Damag's art led him to exhibit in various museums in France, in Luxembourg, in the United States and the Philippines.
He also participated in Art fairs such as the famous International Contemporary Art Fair (FIAC) in France, Art Basel in Switzerland and Art Basel Hong Kong as well as at Biennials such as Thessaloniki and Jakarta.
