Spring in Groenendael

Groenendael is one of the six access gates to the Sonian Forest located 12km from Brussels.

The Sonian Forest, it is much more than the largest green space in the Brussels Region, the largest deciduous forest in Flanders and the most extraordinary beech forest in Belgium.

The Groenendael ponds are home tos species of peasremarkable sounds such as the Bouvière, protected by the European Habitats Directive, dragonflies…

The contiguous meadows are very interesting botanically. The important types of vegetation in the Sonian Forest often have a remarkable vernal flora on moderately eutrophic clay soils (with high biological activity), generally with a composition of mixed essences. The most remarkable vernal flora is composed of Anemone sylvie or Hyacinth des bois, or a combination of both. In spring, wild garlic can also be found in damp to flooded places, like at the foot of the hills.
