Dam lively and shepherd Morocco

Marichal Edouard Edmond Marcel

Lived in Avenay-Val_d'Or (Marne). He is best known for his works on Morocco, which makes him essentially a orientalist painter. He makes oil paintings : Moroccan landscapes, Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts ; his passion is for the Moroccan Atlas, which he reveals to us under his small villages, its bridges and rivers, his donkeys heavily laden with bundles or tissue.

He excels in watercolor, gouaches and charcoals, and many engravings. Among the charcoals, the best are those that reflect the Moroccan life years 50 in the streets of Marrakech : " the mess ", scenes of naked women, the hammams, "The saffio wells of love" or the naughty places of the Medina.

But his work is not limited to a classic traditional painting. CIs also humor, humor found in his caricatures : Marrakech firefighters, metro works (gouaches et aquarelles), des portraits, pastels on political affairs of the time. The pain and sadness, those resulting from the horrors of war, beautiful watercolors on the tearing apart of families after 14-18.

It's also children, his way of watercoloring “Pierrots”, des « Poulbots », little boys and little girls in the spirit of Germaine Bourret.

Marichal has also worked for theater sets, advertising posters for trips… to Morocco, sure, his favorite country.

He also participated in 1958 at the Salon des Indépendants in Paris, as Surrealist and Symbolist.

Another orientalist work proposed by the Gallery.
