School Arras

“If during the wars Arras made heroes, peace returned , they are also the artist who participated in its radiation. There are at poets, there were painters.

Together with many painters gathered in Barbizon, l & rsquo; d & rsquo school Arras was contributing to an epic where the landscapes of painters, between late romanticism and advent of the & rsquo; Impressionism, is sought. L & rsquo; d & rsquo school; Arras gathers around Camille Corrot, Charles Desavary born in Arras, Constant Dutilleux was born in Douai, Gustave Henri Colin, Desire Dubois, Xavier Dourlens, Henry Arthur Bonnefoy born in Boulogne sur Mer and Eudes de Retz. In the nineteenth, Arras becomes an active artistic center, there are many courses in drawing and painting in schools and colleges, an academy, a museum.

The landscape painters of the & rsquo; Arras school bathe in the Northern light. Without always being at the height of the master Corot, their paintings have a certain charm. You can discover them at the Arras Museum. ”
