The Swan, symbol of purity

It is one of the oldest known birds on earth. It is appreciated for its majestic appearance, but also for its feathers which give a quality down. The swan is an animal that already existed there 130 million years. It is the largest of the birds belonging to the Anatidae family, which also features geese and ducks. There are several species of swans. The Mute Swan and Black Swan are best known as ornamental swans.

Origin and characteristics of the swan

Several species of swans are listed, like the mute swan, the black swan, the whistling swan, the Cygne de Bewick (Piping Swan subspecies) or the Whooper Swan. These are birds that already existed millions of years ago.

If there are several species of swans, however common points characterize these birds. First, they all have a typical curved neck due to their very large number of cervical vertebrae (24). Ensuite, they have a very beautiful plumage. The most famous swan species wears white feathers, but there are also black feathered swans (the black swan). Finally, swans have webbed feet and, when they are adults, they have a characteristic mark (a patch of plucked skin) between the eyes and on the beak.

Despite its imposing size, the swan has the ability to fly, up to a speed of 65 km/hour. in vol, its size is impressive. His clumsy walk on earth is also characteristic.
