The tradition of lacquerware in Vietnam.

Au Vietnam, lacquer has been used for a long time in crafts or for the decoration of architectural works. Towards 1930, lacquer has become a new creative material, especially in modern Vietnamese painting, which is called sanded lacquer

Compared to its Asian counterparts, Vietnamese lacquer has its specificities. Traditional lacquer and its techniques are well known, and are widely used in many fields, including painting. Lacquer, it is a kind of natural plastic. Au Vietnam, it is drawn from the milky sap of the lacquer tree, the lipstick or Rhus succedanea. These trees grow mainly in the district of Tam Nông of the province of Phu Tho (Nord). The sap is taken from it in the same way as the latex from the rubber tree.

Hairspray is applied slowly and thoroughly, by thin superimposed layers. We start by carefully preparing the surface of the object to be lacquered., filling all depressions and cracks with putty, then sanding the surface to obtain a perfectly smooth surface.
