Navy to two boats
Jourdan N (French School XX th century)
The marine is a kind of figurative art, that depicts or draws its main inspiration from the sea. These paintings form a particularly important type between XVIIe and XIXe centuries. By extension, the term often covers artistic representations of navigation on rivers or estuaries, beach scenes and all arts showing boats, even drawn or painted from dry land.
The representation of ships and boats has been present in art since prehistoric times, but the Navy has only started to become a special genre - with specialized artists- that towards the end of the Middle Ages. It then mainly takes the form of "portrait ship" which has remained very popular for a long time and focuses on the representation of a single ship..
As the representation of the landscape in art that emerged during the Renaissance, what could be called the seascape (in) then became an important element in these works, even if purely marine landscapes were still rare.
Another marine is proposed to you.
