Cargo and mer Van Bellinghen

And cargo ship (literal translation from English cargo-ship) or cargo is a merchant vessel or merchant ship whose role is to transport goods in various forms using the sea route.

In English, cargo means cargo.

Since the second half of XXe century

Freighters have specialized considerably to the point of presenting characteristic appearances according to their type ; the different types of cargo vessels are described below. However, they have a number of common characteristics..

The vast majority of these ships have a welded steel hull, often quite full in order to maximize the quantity of goods transported (unlike warships having a more tapered hull for greater speed). The hull includes one or more holds containing the cargo, divided between them vertically by bulkheads and sometimes horizontally by intermediate decks (still called "false bridges").

Tankers do not have holds but cisterns or tanks. The holds or tanks are surmounted by the main deck (except on undecked vessels such as some container ships), on which the cranes and other gear are located. Without exception, it is at the rear of the ship that we find the engine room containing the engines, surmounted by the superstructure in which lodges and lives the crew. At the top of the superstructure, the bridge allows the ship to be controlled.

Propulsion is most often provided by one or more motors(s) Diesel. The big ships (more than 10 000 tpl) typically only have a single low-speed two-stroke diesel engine, driving a single propeller ; electricity production is then ensured by several independent diesel generators. On smaller units, instead we find a set of four-stroke Diesel engines, driving one or two propellers via a reduction gear.

The propellers are then sometimes variable pitch (adjustable blades) to improve maneuverability. Only a few LNG carriers still use a steam engine, because they can burn part of their cargo. There are more and more often one or two transverse thrusters to facilitate port maneuvers.

Another engraved wood is proposed to you.
