El Oued (Arab : the valley, Berber : ⵙⵓⴼ), also called Oued Souf, is a municipality in the wilaya of El Oued, of which it is the capital. Located in the northeast of the Algerian Sahara and south of Chott Melrhir, at 79 km east-north-east of Touggourt, at 212 km north-east of Ouargla and 512 km south-east of Algiers.
The city of El Oued, capital of Souf, is nicknamed "the city of a thousand domes", the Algerians call it Oued Souf
.
The territory of the municipality of El Oued is located in the center of the wilaya. The city of El Oued is practically at sea level.
The oasis of Oued Souf offers us a recent example of the installation of Arab tribes like that of the Teroud. At a time even closer to ours, but that the local tradition does not specify, travelers coming from Teroud, in Syria, stopped one day in the network of white sand mountains once called the “white tent”.
Having recognized in this place the presence of a water table at a small depth under the ground, they resolved to settle there . So they built houses and planted palm trees.. They were soon joined by a large number of their compatriots. Several cities and villages rose successively in the middle of the sands, and this is how a colony of Syrian origin found itself established in the Algerian Sahara, where it populates one of the most flourishing oases.
Another watercolor by the artist is offered to you.
