Ricard Jules Jean Victor Liguori dit Jan Rikar

(1879 Villefranche d'Albigeois – 1958)

Paris

Spent his childhood in Paris and sailed as an apprentice at the age of 14 ans. He then studied at the School of Fine Arts in Paris and received lessons from painters and Gerome J.P.Laurens.

His work reflects the constant concern to make a direct and personal interpretation, these light effects that vary due to the state of the atmosphere, of the season, the time of day or the very quality of the lighting when it is artificial.

The landscape lends itself particularly well to studies of this kind., this is why J. Ricard has frequently treated it and with success as proved by his First flowering tree, the Planques Cemetery, a corner of the park (d'Albi), The cut, several Parisian views such as Le Pont-neuf, Pont Alexandre III, Near the Solferino Bridge, green boats, Banc Saint-Cloud park, besides many subjects tarnais : The terrace of Puy-celci, The park Rochegude, Old Albi Bridge, Old houses and red City (Albi at dusk).

Groups enliven the landscape in Sweet Clarity, Modern Diane, as in Ashes and Tisons, round of elves in front of a fireplace. We still owe him portraits, one particular, very expressive, an American. other, to lead, deserve special mention, given the finesse and skill of their execution. Let's add charge portraits, caricatures inserted in several Journals, the illustration of Our animals by Pierre Coq.
