(Born the 22 May 1868 – Valenciennes, 59300 - Nord Pas de Calais – Died 13 avril 1921 – Angles sur L’Anglin, 86260, Vienna, Poitou-Charentes)

He appeared at the Salon of the National Society of 1897 at 1899, in 1902, 1913 and 1914, and at the Salon of the Society of Independent Artists in 1905, 1907, 1910-1912 and 1914.

This painting is made using the pictorial technique of "divisionism". This consists of applying small spots of pure color juxtaposed on a support. Divisionism is characteristic of Neo-Impressionist painting defined by the division of colors into individual dots which optically interact. By forcing the viewer's eye and brain to combine colors, the divisionists believed to achieve the maximum scientific light possible.

Georges Seurat founded this style around 1884.
